Phono Preamp Level

Most turntables are unique require a preamplifier to boost the signal so that you can register an acceptable level. Some turntables, particularly those who are in hi-fi units, will have an integrated amplifier, but for most professional decks, or DJ's, a preamplifier is needed. The choice of preamplifier is crucial. I could go to a very deep explanation on the capacitance, um, LF noise and impedance, etc, but that he was confused at this point. What I will say is that the following will save you great pain and make life much easier.
Years back, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), established what is known as compensation rules. The resulting RIAA preamp has been built into every hi-fi and stereo amplifier turntable with RCA or since. In the event that you are using a turntable connected to a mixer or independent, who have not built in a preamplifier RIAA, then you need to get one. Now here is where the technical heads are sometimes passionate debate. Does it apply RIAA equalization in the preamp stage or after using software applications? Take my word for it, always apply the RIAA equalization in the analog stage, in the prior, not after. This will ensure a good strong signal with sufficient dynamic headroom.
Most vinyl is made with what we call pre-emphasis, a kind of equalizer, to tame the amount of low frequency energy recorded on the disc. This pre-emphasis must then be corrected using what is known as a curve RIAA, which boosts the low end and high end reduced so that total is a flat frequency response.
Furthermore, the signal needs output after amplification and correction of the RIAA.
In today's world of gender sampling is crucial to a industry standard power amp TP approved your turntable signal. Use only approved RIAA amp, or similar specification as the integrity and signal quality to be amplified is as important as the signal chain passes through.
